Emotions Education 101™

Learn to recognize and allow your emotions to move through you, taking you to a place of your authentic Self. Connect with others and yourself more genuinely! This process also helps to decrease anxiety and depression.

What is Emotions Education 101™?

The class can best be described as a gentle learning experience to understand your emotions and defenses and help you work the Change Triangle tool®, as described by Hilary Jacobs Hendel in her book, It’s Not Always Depression, © to find your calmest, most authentic self. Connecting and sharing with others about emotions helps normalize emotions and decreases aloneness.

This course is designed for people who are working through their own struggles with anxiety and depression, as well as for people who are supporting others on their journeys like parents, teachers, and healthcare professionals.

For healthcare and wellness professionals: To be the best clinician you can be, you have to be your best self!  Learning the basics and how to working the Change Triangle tool®, really adds to your toolbox and personally and professionally!

The structure of the class will be a mix of didactic learning, gentle experiential exercises, questions and answers, and processing of what it is like to talk about emotions authentically with others.

In this course, you will learn to better understand and work with emotions - not changing emotions, but having a different experience with them.  These experiences will lead to a richer and more authentic life.  This course is based on Hilary’s award-winning book It’s Not Always Depression ©.

Learn how to move through the Change Triangle tool® and land in the Open-Hearted State of the Authentic Self!

Participants will learn and understand the Change Triangle tool® for emotional health to use for the rest of their lives to prevent, ease, and heal anxiety and depression.

  • Participants will learn to identify defenses, the protective ways we avoid emotions.

  • Participants will learn to embody a stance that facilitates vulnerability and growth with others

  • Participants will have the opportunity to experience core emotions like joy, sadness, and anger in safe and productive ways.

  • Participants will practice getting below anxiety.

  • Participants will practice transforming shame and guilt.

  • Participants will learn how to spend more time in open-hearted and expansive states of being.

Should I take the 8 Week or the Weekend Workshop option? What’s the difference? Great question!

In order to meet the diverse needs of people interested in Emotions Education 101, there are two class options offered.  Each class provides the same basic information in the same structure, but provides variations in sizes of classes and levels of emotional intimacy experienced in the group. Both experiences build the framework for emotional growth and transformational experiences.

Emotions Education 101 - Two day intensive

In this two day course, you will be challenged to increase your curiosity and compassion towards yourself as you explore and share your emotional experiences through the lens of the Change Triangle ® .  Although the information presented in this course is the same as in the 8 week course, the smaller size of this class (20 or less) creates an intimate environment that is conducive to a therapeutic experience.  Since the course takes place over two days, participants get to know each other better as there is more time for sharing and learning from each others’ experiences.  This course has one facilitator who remains with the entire group for the duration of the course.

Emotions Education 101 - 8 week course

In this 8 week course, participants meet for 90 minutes each week and participate in guided experiential exercises in both the large group and in small groups (up to 15 people with a facilitator) with instructional periods in the large group.  This class has more of an educational feel, has less intimate sharing and may feel safer for people who prefer the protection of a larger group. While the smaller breakout rooms create space for discussion and sharing, the facilitators rotate each week to a different group.  This course has two co-facilitators and one assistant for every 15 people to facilitate processing in breakout rooms.

What people are saying about their experiences in the Emotions Education 101 classes:

“Oh gosh, it’s all amazing! I’m really enjoying all the different perspectives and metaphors and community.” -Fall 2021 participant

“I really enjoy the experiential exercises and that they are presented at a pace that allows me to slow down and really benefit from the experience.” - Fall 2021 participant

“You facilitated and guided me through a space to explore some complicated and difficult things.. emotions and all that go with them. It's been enlightening, daunting, simple and complicated. I feel like I've taken some invaluable, solid knowledge and understanding about my self away but also that I've barely scratched the surface. I liked the experiential exercises the most, they became more accessible as the weeks went by and I particularly liked it when we did one as a whole group and then another in breakout rooms. I would like more, maybe I will attend another round of classes, I will keep my eyes peeled for future events you guys run.” Summer 2021 participant

“Great course. Should be part of every high school and college curriculum.” -Summer 2021 participant
